Golden Son at Year’s End — and Other News

Well, I rounded of 2014 with a bang, narrating the sequel to Pierce Brown‘s sci-fi masterpiece Red Rising; Golden Son.

Golden Son

And man… it’s a stunner. I can’t wait for it to be out in the world, garnering the same kind of accolades that Red Rising did. But bloodydammit Pierce, when’s part 3 happening??? I don’t know if I can wait another year — the torment might kill me!

Off to Europe for a family reunion of sorts. Then I return in early January to record an important book for Audible on the so-called War on Drugs — Chasing the Scream, by Johann Hari.

Chasing the Scream
cover to the UK edition

With the gradual legalization of marijuana, the time is ripe for us to re-examine our attitudes to Drug Law Enforcement, where those attitudes came from, and what effect drug policy has had upon our society. In this wide-ranging, and deeply researched investigation, Hari leaves no stone unturned in his examination of the history of drug policies, and the devastating effect they have had over the last one hundred years. If you’re in any way ambivalent about this subject, Hari’s book will open your eyes to the harrowing truth that our close-minded and misguided attempts at “saving” people from drugs has become. Truly a book for our time. Really looking forward to recording it.

2014 has been an extraordinary year for me as an audiobook narrator, and I thank you all for your kind support that has enabled me to pursue this career full time. Reading out loud is a profound privilege that continues to enrich my life.

A Happy New Year to you all, and the very best wishes for 2015!

  1. Hey, Mr. Reynolds! I’m about halfway through the audiobook for Golden Son and it is amazing! Your work on both this and Red Rising has blown me away. You are to Darrow as James Marsters is to Harry Dresden which, to anyone who is a fan of the Dresden Files would know, is really big praise. I can’t wait to finish the book and I’m already eager for the next one!

I wish you the best of luck to you going forward in 2015!

  2. Wow Brad! James Marsters? Very high praise, indeed. Thank you so much. You know, Pierce’s books are so deeply imagined that I get swept away in them too. Enjoy the rest of the book, and a Happy New Year to you too!
